Hispanic Migrant Workers’ Ministry at Sacred Heart Parish was formed in 2013. The role of this Ministry is to support the deep Catholic Faith of Hispanic farm workers who come to work in Canada for 8 months to 2 years under the Federal Seasonal Agricultural Workers’ program.
Today the Hispanic Migrant Workers’ Ministry at Sacred Heart Parish has over 130 farm workers who come from Guatemala and Mexico and represent 6 greenhouses and 2 farms in Ladner.
Through this Ministry, Sacred Heart offers monthly Reconciliation and celebration of the Mass, and weekly Rosary prayers in Spanish.
Those musically inclined are invited to join the Spanish Choir.
Other religious celebrations in Spanish include the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, procession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in May, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Christmas.
In 2016, we were able to bring CCO Discovery Faith Study to a small group of farm workers in order to proclaim the Gospel, equip the faithful, and commission them to become missionary disciples. Our goal is to offer these series of faith studies to all workers.
With the help of donations from the Sacred Heart Parish Community, the Ministry provides fellowship to these men by serving meals after monthly mass. We are also able to present new workers with a “Welcome Kit”, bicycles, and warm clothing.
The Migrant Workers’ Ministry at Sacred Heart is part of the Migrant Ministry within the Archdiocese of Vancouver.
